Hello and welcome to Barouf!

Barouf is a marketing consultancy resource for small businesses who want to be seen, heard and stand out from the crowd.  Barouf was founded in January 2022 by Xavier Rousseau. The main goal of this site is to share marketing concepts that are known to reliably work, and provide advices & tips that can help entrepreneurs to improve their chances of success.

Who am I?

My name is Xavier Rousseau, and I am the founder of Barouf.
The Barouf story begins back in 2012 when I received the great opportunity to participate to a marketing strategy training with Professor Sanjay K. Dhar (University of Chicago) who provides students with a tool kit for dissecting business problems.

It didn’t take me long to become passionate about marketing, and since then I have been using this precious framework for identifying, categorizing, and solving problems in a lot of situations for different manufacturers active in the building industry.

That being said a strategic plan is only as valuable as its ability to be executed. You can’t do anything worthwhile successfully without both strategy and implementation tactics. In other words, strategy without tactics leads to paralysis by analysis.

In today’s communication jungle

In today’s communication jungle the only hope to stand out from the crowd is to be selective, oversimplify your message and ensure you spend your time on activities that make the biggest impact. Focus will help you spend your resources (incl. budget) wisely!

This also means that money is not the answer to all marketing questions. There is no absolute need for expensive gestures with fancy communication agencies, and that is good news for you!

Understanding the key concepts of marketing and how to apply them yourself to reach your target customers is much more important for the long term success of your business.

As a self-starter or small business, you often don’t have a large budget to spend on marketing and advertising. However those two things are crucial to grow and you may need some help there. That’s why I launched Barouf as a marketing consultancy resource targeted for entrepreneurs, without management speak or jargon to understand.

The goal is to help small businesses compete with the big guys. Simply put, Barouf was created to offer entrepreneurs what we all wish we had when we first started out.
